How to set your mind on things above.

Yesterday in verse one we thought about setting our hearts on things above and today we think about setting our minds on things above. I look at like this: my heart sets the course and my mind keeps the course.
"Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory." Colossians 3:2-4
Notice how Paul tells us that our lives are now hidden with Christ in God. It is sort of like working with Google. They offer a lot of helps for free, but, you have to do some work to find them. Our lives, the things that truly make us alive, are hidden in Christ. The world will not bring us life, only death.

The kingdom of God is a matter of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:17). What we do in the here and now is seek righteousness in our actions, peace in our relationships and joy in our attitudes. This is how we stay on course. When you think about it, it simplifies our lives. I know if I acting right. I know when I am at peace with others. I know when I have joy. I just want to add that joy is not a la la experience, joy is an assurance that God is Sovereign, in control and will work out all things for our good.

The long term coordinates that we are to set our minds upon is the Second Coming of Christ Jesus. When he appears, we will appear with him in glory. Remember the Parable of the Ten Virgins (Matthew 25:1-13). The objective is to be ready to go enjoy the wedding banquet. Set your mind upon appearing with him in glory.

So, set your coordinates on the glory and stay the course by righteousness, peace and joy in Christ.

Father, set our minds on things above. Thank you that you promised that if we seek first your kingdom and your righteousness, you will provide all things we need. Praise be to you in us today!
