One of the truths found later in the book of Ephesians is that we are not engaged in a battle that is fought on a purely physical field (Ephesians 6:12). Fighting from the higher ground is the best way to do battle. In our lives as Christians the Apostle Paul understood this. In the beginning of the Epistle to the Ephesians he begins by rallying us to the spiritual higher ground centered upon the work of Christ in us.
"Praise be to the God and Father of our LORD Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ." Ephesians 1:3
The higher ground from which we are to do battle is first of all the knowledge that spiritually we have been given everything we need in Christ! In II Kings chapter 6 Elisha the prophet tells the servant to not fear the army that surrounded them and prayed that the servant would see what he saw. The servants eyes' were opened to see horses and chariots full of fire. Elisha prayed that the attacking forces would be struck with blindness and they were and led them to a merciful victory!
The truth that we are to remember today and meditate on as we fight the good fight is that we have been blessed with EVERY spiritual blessing in Christ.
Lord, there are many enemies and battles that we are facing: finances, strife in our marriages and families, cliques at work and school. Whatever we are facing, open our eyes to see that those who are with us are more than those who are against us. Praise be to you in us today!
