YOU WERE NOT, NOW YOU ARE

Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
1 Peter 2:10 (NIV)

When I first started teaching I was single. One of the guys I worked with was married, we'll call him Mr. P. The school I worked at was in a rough neighborhood, so there was a high turnover of teachers. Mr.P., although married, would make it a point "to get to know" some of the new teachers.  He was married but didn't act like it. He, of course, eventually got divorced, which he blamed on his wife and mother-in-law.

The point is that Mr. P. seemed to forget that he was married, so it was no surprise that he ended up divorced. Peter reminds us that once we were not the people of God, but now we are his people and we have received God's mercy. We need to remember, throughout the day that we are the people of God and we have received his mercy.

Father, help us to live in your mercy as your people. Remind us of you love for us. Praise be to you in us today!
