Do You See Justice?

For the earth will be filled with
the knowledge of the glory of the LORD,
as the waters cover the sea.
Habakkuk 2:14

The prophet saw the corruption of those in leadership and even in those God was using to punish the leaders in Judah. Justice was perverted and the wicked seemed to go unpunished. God's message was that his justice would come around to them. Rage as they may, their end will come.

If you have ever watched a great fighter matched against a very aggressive opponent you know how this works out. The aggressive fighter seems to be carrying the fight as he strikes with relentless furry. The great fighter dodges, blocks and waits for the opportune moment to counter strike. When he finally delivers a blow it is with awesome force and accuracy and quite often ends the fight quite quickly.

In a way, God's justice is like that. With relentless rage the enemy of our souls strikes away at our lives and we wonder were God is. The wicked seem to prosper and justice is perverted. Just wait. Their turn is coming and God will be glorified.

What is our responsibility. To wait on God. To do what we know is right, even though everyone around us is doing what is right in their own eyes. Acknowledge God in all you do. Give God the glory. He will make himself known.

Should You Be Afraid?

Should you not fear me?” declares the Lord.
“Should you not tremble in my presence?
I made the sand a boundary for the sea,
an everlasting barrier it cannot cross.
Jeremiah 5:22 (NIV)

Every now and then we need to just stop and remember that God is the Almighty and he answers to no one. All must answer to him.

Sometimes we forget that God is the Sovereign Judge of all. Every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Every person who arrogantly speaks as if they will question God with some foolish question will realize his own folly.

As a Christian sometimes we just need to sit down in God's Presence and humbly remember that we need to fear him and tremble in his Presence. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. Although I do believe that my salvation is all of grace, I also believe that I should not mess with the grace of God. God is being gracious and merciful to me because he chooses to, not because he has to.

Father, we come before you and confess that we are sinners. We need you grace and call out for your mercy! Teach us to walk humbly before you. Praise be to you in us today!

THE BOTTOM LINE

People can and will say many things about what is right and wrong, good and evil and what happens in the end. But the bottom line is that God has the final word.

Now all has been heard;
here is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear God and keep his commandments,
for this is the duty of all mankind.
For God will bring every deed into judgment,
   including every hidden thing,
whether it is good or evil.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (NIV)
